What is an affidavit ?

Affidavit means a written document given by an individual that may be used by a person while taking an oath, mostly used to prove the truthfulness of a statement in court, which indicates “whatever the individual is saying is true.” 

The standard affidavit template is a declaration made by the individual that can be used as a mandatory document in certain government procedures. Such documents are used in divorce proceedings, property disputes and debt cases. The document is signed in the presence of a solicitor or person commissioned to receive oaths.

A person can submit an affidavit as long as they have the mental ability to understand the seriousness of the oath and the document is accompanied by an oath which creates a legal binding.

The person making the affidavit cannot be penalised for failing to include the information of which they are not aware.

An affidavit means a written statement submitted or given by a witness in a case, and an affidavit template is a document that sets out the evidence required for a case. 

The document is prepared and written by a solicitor or the barrister after getting the necessary information from the witness. The Commissioner for Oaths verifies the affidavit where they check if the person swearing the oath has read it and he /she can understand it fully.
