Frauds and scams are getting more and more sophisticated day by day with various types of direct and indirect pressure applied to get involved. The old saying still stands that if sounds too good to be true, it more than likely is a scam / fraud or Ponzi scheme
In today’s day and age, it can be difficult to identify what is a scam and what is not as you could find these types of individuals and companies using slick marketing material, fake endorsements, feature atmajorexhibitions / events, various forms of advertising via social media and email. The most common way scammers will communicate still is via the telephone, better known as a cold call.
You will often find a person will ring to qualify you and they are known as junior brokers or openers, once they have sent you some information a different person will call you and try close the deal with you, this type of caller is known as a closer, broker or senior broker and if they are unable to close deal with you expect them to ring you every week at least once. If a deal has been struck that will not be the end of the calls as now these types of companies will continue to call you and present various other types of opportunities and try convince individuals to invest again, this is called loading an existing client and will often be done by a senior broker, loader or a so called account manager /director.
When ever considering any type of investment always check the FCA Warning List, check the FCA website to find out what types of investments should be regulated and again you can check if the company is on the FCA register. Before investing into a company or product also do your own research online and also check on the UK Action Fraud website to see if any type of product, scheme or company is listed.
