Per diem means the company hired you part-time and uses your skills or services as and when needed. In such conditions, the firm can hire a person for a Daily Subsistence Allowance(DSA), where you get a specific amount of money from the firm – which often covers the everyday living expenses and expense of travelling for work.
Diem is based on a subsistence allowance that includes the cost of the meal, the fees for service, laundry and room service.
One may not receive employment benefits, but they have higher flexibility and can adjust the working hours to meet their obligations. Further, they are not bound to the company’s terms like a full-time employee.
Several jobs in the service and hospitality sector, like the job of a nurse, construction workers and substitute teachers, are based on diem.
