The term indicates the asset - investment has fallen drastically compared to a penny or other historically low-cost securities.

If the value of such an asset is headed towards a bagel, it means the security is approaching the rate when it will become nearly worthless.

In such conditions, one can predict that the company is nearing bankruptcy or facing major solvency issues.
