Opportunities are Infinite
Tele-callers often request you to buy products, and in your phone number list, some numbers appear to be known, but scammers use technical tools to make phone calls with a fake ID where the first six digits can be identical or known. It may be difficult to resist the call as you may worry it is coming from a neighbour or friend in need.
It is called neighbour spoofing, where the caller ID used by the fraudster looks like it is coming from somebody close to you, or you can identify it. You may not remember, but it resembles your saved list. If you pick up such calls, the callers assure you to disclose details related to credit cards, passwords or personal information.
If you suspect a neighbour spoofing, hang up and do not try to argue or outsmart the caller; hang up and report it.
Sometimes, if you do not pick up the phone, you receive a message through voicemail.
Voice performance platforms can provide visibility and control over such numbers. First, set up an interactive voice response mechanism to track robocalls, but this is not the most reliable solution as it takes 2 hours or more to process the number.
Using the BT landline service in the UK, you can integrate the Call Protect feature to restrict incoming or seek a branded caller ID to answer calls.
Manually, you can block preferentially and install a call-blocking or tracking device.
You can install third-party apps online, using VOIP carriers to restrict unwanted phones.
Many such apps are built into the mobile device, linked to cloud-based services, and offered free of cost.
Register your number to the Do Not Call Registry to restrict telemarketing and sales phones from legitimate firms.
Suppose you suspect a caller, report to Action Fraud. If you get malicious phones deliberately targeting your security or using threats or blackmailing to obtain information, it can be reported as a criminal offence.
Some are used for tricking people into giving money or information. It is also a criminal offence which you can report to the local police. Never give away banking or financial details to anyone you are unsure about, and if the visitor wants it immediately, ask them to return later.
