Stamps have historical value where the rarest of stamps from 1950s and 1960s America and Britain have great value. The British Penny Blacks can fetch up to £2,500, which can be sold on online markets such as eBay, where free valuation of such items is provided. One of the most expensive stamps sold in 2014 is the British Guiana 1c Magenta, which was sold on auction Catawiki for 9.5 million dollars, and in New York, the 2nd most expensive Treskilling Yellow, of 1855 ( a Swedish stamp) was sold. One of the first commonwealth stamps is a Mauritius stamp of 1847, which is 3rd most expensive.
The stamp collector Bill Gross invested in rare US stamps, which he is collecting from 1993, and the stamp of unused block of 10 cent of 1847 is auctioned in the range of $500,000 to $750,000. Gross has some of the first US stamps of 1847, valued in the range of $500,000 to $750,000. Gross single day collection of auction in 2007 got 9.1 million dollar in 2007.
Stamp collections of Egyptian postal services are displayed at the Postal Museum of Cairo showcase where the stamp of 1840 – The Black Penny – of engraving of Queen Victoria, and the First British postal services stamp Sir Rowland Hill can be found. Stamp collection is thriving these days on online platform where stamps made on modern themes E.g. the marriage of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are sold. The Royal wedding stamp was released a day after the marriage and produced immediately, which was bought by new collectors. Many new collectors are not aware of significance of historical stamps and youngsters are investing in designer stamps of popular game or movies that are auctioned online. Some online stamps are modern but based on traditional themes. Ancient stamps required proper tools and storage, whereas, the new buyers are getting theme-based collection or creating a sequence of popular modern stories.
The Egyptian archive of 2300 stamps was displayed online depicting major historical events in the Arab world, from 1866 till now. There are advantages of online display as the stamps can be searched easily and prices can be compared online. There is a lot of information provide online related to the history, color, type etc. One such stamp is the 2003 NZ Post Christmas collection – Black Fern, which is a 40c stamp and it contains a baby Jesus.
