Opportunities are Infinite
Several people in the UK were trapped in complex virtual plots where the applicant authorised payment from their bank account into the scammer's account – who impersonated the service provider, solicitor, or government official.
There has been an increase in eCommerce and impersonation scams where UK residents get mail from someone who impersonates the parcel delivery. They attempt to trick people into giving away their banks' personal information and payment details.
The client gets new text messages with a voicemail and a delivery schedule from the Post Office. The fraudster creates a copycat DPD website and sends the fake web- link to users to enter their details, and they seek a small fee for the service.
Many were lost to Royal Mail and police impersonations. The victims claim their personal information was stolen online, where the caller or the emailer sent a text message or email requesting to get their data. The messages are manipulative and require action.
The unsuspecting victim was asked to click on the provided links without wasting time accessing the benefits (like avoiding a legal issue or loss).
They even make phone calls through spoofed mobile numbers. The caller claims they are from HMRC or other law enforcement firms. They want the user to act immediately to avoid trouble or gain favour. They may ask them to press one or any number to speak directly to a police officer or a legal advisor.
They ask the victim to respond and run a prerecorded message asking the recipient if they need to talk to an advisor to avoid a police warrant, pay dues, or access a government grant.
Some victims get messages on WhatsApp or similar apps asking them to pay for the due postal or insurance bills to claim a lottery or grant.
No government institution is notified to pay the unpaid dues or penalties and never sends texts regarding warrants or bills. If you get any such message or call, ask the legal authorities before parting with your money.
Do not divulge personal information and bank details to unknown callers or email.
Look into the URLs offered in messages carefully, and do not follow any link or site address.
Anyone receiving any such mail should report the suspicious mail to authorities. You can forward the suspicious message to Action Fraud websites and register against the mobile calls to the authorised websites.
